Appalachian Ski Mountain
If
you're looking to enjoy innovative terrain
features, edge appeal and the most concentrated
snowmaking per acre in the Southeast,
Appalachian Ski Mountain is your
North Carolina Ski
Vacation destination. Started in 1962,
Appalachian Ski Mountain was the
High Country Mountains first
ski area and year after year offers the most
progressive terrain park features in the region.
Adding to the atmosphere of Appalachian Ski Mtn, the staff is known to be the coolest
around. Constantly changing park setups,
offering fresh graphics on rail and box sets and
dispensing a hip vibe, the Appalachians Ski staff is a
dedicated crew.
In fact, this year, six members
of the ski patrol team received the highest
national awards from the
National Ski Patrol (NSP)
for saving the life of a skier during the 2008
winter season. According to
physicians, the speed and
dexterity of the patrollers’ response to the
woman, who collapsed at the base of the
mountain, saved her life. Joe Donadio, a member
of the Appalachian Ski Patrol for 21 years and
the Appalachian Ski Patrol director for 9 years,
received the award for National and Southern
Division Outstanding Patrol Director.
For many locals of the High Country, Appalachian Ski
Mountain
offers the best ski experience.
The slopes are
usually groomed twice a day, more than other NC
Ski Resorts, and the short lines assure you ski
more than shuffle. The two terrain parks are
filled with 30 unique rails, boxes, jumps and
jibs. Appal Jam Terrain Park features the
signature stairset, and Candied Appal, which
during non-peak periods offers smaller
rails, boxes, bonks, jumps and more. Appal Jam
is the park for skiers and snowboarders to run
smooth lines down the length of the mountain. Appaljack Terrain Park was Appalachian Ski Mtn’s
first park in 1999 and features large tabletops
near the base of the mountain and a variety of
solid rails and boxes. The snow holds up very
well in Appaljack and skiers and snowboarders
frequent this park until the end of the season.
Best
of all, Appalachian is home to the French-Swiss
